The Republican Party Just Sent Trump a Clear Warning

For years on end, the Republican Party has stood by former President Trump, backing his policies, and going to bat for him.

The backing that Trump’s received from the Republican Party has gone a long way in him being able to build his political brand, reach voters, and otherwise achieve kingmaker status in 2024.

However, time has the ability to change quite a bit of dynamics. At this moment, there’s a lot of speculation about the 2024 presidential election and who’s going to run on the Republican side.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ name has come up, along with former Vice President Mike Pence and others. This has since led to reports that Trump may declare his candidacy ahead of the November midterms in order to weed out the competition.

Now, the Republican National Committee (RNC) is warning the former president not to go down this route, per Yahoo News.

A Critical Warning From the GOP to Trump

As it turns out, higher-ups in the Republican Party believe that a premature 2024 announcement from Trump could sabotage the party’s chances of winning the midterms.

Therefore, the RNC has determined that if the former president declares himself to be a candidate for the 2024 presidential election before the midterms, they won’t cover his legal bills any longer.

Thus far, the RNC has paid millions to various firms that are defending the former president against federal probes and lawsuits that are personal in nature.

According to higher-ups in the GOP, the party will have to maintain its status as a neutral entity concerning the Republican primary election.

Trump has previously rejected claims that he’s going to make a 2024 presidential announcement ahead of the midterm elections.

More on 2024 Possibilities

Not too long ago, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said he expects for there to be no shortage of candidates when it comes to the 2024 GOP primary election.

Thus far, polling has shown that if Trump were to run in 2024, his most formidable primary challenger would be Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. DeSantis is the only candidate to have beaten Trump in certain, select polls.

Furthermore, even in polls where Trump leads the pack of desired 2024 contenders, DeSantis consistently comes in right behind him.

Over the past few months, reports of tension between the two Republicans have come out. Meanwhile, some GOP voters have expressed an interest in seeing DeSantis go for the White House rather than in Trump giving the presidency another go.

What do you think about the Republican National Committee’s warning to Trump about declaring his candidacy in the 2024 presidential election too prematurely? Do you think Trump will issue a response?
