Three intelligence-related active-duty Marines, one of whom is claimed to have expressed zeal for a second civil war, were detained this week for breaking into the US Capitol building on January 6, 2021, together with a crowd of Trump loyalists.
Marine’s Hope for Second Civil War
Charges against Micah Coomer, Joshua Abate, and Dodge Dale Hellonen comprise disorderly conduct on Capitol property.
According to court documents, Micah Coomer, Joshua Abate, and Dodge Dale Hellonen were apprehended this week on misdemeanor charges when their fellow Marines assisted authorities in spotting them in the video of the pro-Trump crowd on January 6, 2021.
Although many of those accused in the disturbance have military experience, only a small number of them are now serving.
In 2021, charges were brought against a Marine Corps commander caught on camera fighting with police and assisting other rioters in breaking into the Capitol.
Based on government records, Coomer’s Instagram posts of himself within the Capitol building were how FBI agents first learned about him. Agents looking into his account found texts he sent to another user saying he was ready for a second civil war.

He stated the U.S. is corrupt in every way. As stated in the affidavit, Coomer wrote that we genuinely need a fresh start and that he’s looking forward to the boogaloo. The associate enquired about what a boogaloo is.
As per court records, Coomer responded, “Civil war 2,” making reference to a catchphrase used by some far-right organizations to advocate for a second civil war.
As per court records, Abate acknowledged throughout a security clearance examination that he entered the Capitol in the midst of the riot with two of his friends. Abate allegedly stated in the discussion he chose not to disclose his role because he felt the riot was being portrayed badly.
None of the accused have confessed guilt or gotten help from any legal counsel, according to court records.

Coomer is listed as an engineer working out of Camp Pendleton in California, based on the most recent military documents.
Both Abate and Hellonen work as analysts in special communications signals at Fort Meade in Maryland and Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.
In a remark to CNN on Friday, a Marine Corps spokesman said the organization is aware of an inquiry and is totally collaborating with proper authorities in assistance with the inquiry.
Marines Walked Capitol
According to authorities, CCTV from within the Capitol displays Coomer walking around with two other guys who were later recognized by their military identity documents as Abate and Hellonen.
The three males allegedly penetrated the Capitol rotunda, set a red MAGA hat on one of the memorials, and then posed for photographs with it.
