The GOP really “got outsmarted” by Joe “Giant Spending” Biden in the bipartisan deal to up the US government’s debt ceiling. That’s according to fuming Republican Congresswoman Nancy Mace of South Carolina.
Republicans ‘Outsmarted’ Big…
The US government reached its $31.4 trillion debt ceiling in January and has been threatened with default as early as this month.
The Republican majority in the House first passed a bill to demand four trillion dollars in the budget deficit and spending cuts over the next 10 years. Yet, House Speaker McCarthy negotiated with Sleepy Joe on a borrowing limit deal that barely provided for any spending reductions.
The deal is good for two years and only caps spending for 2024, with a 1% increase for 2025 and defense/veteran funding excluded.
The House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly to approve the agreement in a 314 to 117 vote, with 149 GOP legislators backing the deal and 71 voting against it.
At the same time, 165 Democrats voted in favor, while 46 voted against it. Rep. Nancy Mace denounced the deal from the Republican point of view in a series of tweets ahead of the House vote, MRC TV reports.
CBO Score is out.
Best case scenario the bill leaves in place 96% of projected 10yr debt.
Even that is wildly optimistic when you factor in a 2yr undefined debt ceiling increase and non-enforceable caps in years 3-10. https://t.co/GJUr7Oef9Y

Washington is broken.
After reading the bill, twice, I’m voting NO on the debt ceiling debacle because playing the DC game isn’t worth selling out our kids and grandkids.
Republicans got outsmarted by a President who can’t find his pants.
Let’s dive in. (thread)

The bill doesn’t actually set a debt limit. Rather it suspends the debt limit entirely until Jan. 2, 2025 and there is no actual amount capping the debt ceiling.

By a Man Who ‘Can’t Find His Pants’
Mace made it clear she was furious that the GOP was “outsmarted” by Biden, whom she described as a president incapable of locating “his pants.”
The South Carolina representative declared she was going to reject the agreement since it was “selling out” America’s “kids and grandkids” by allowing Democrats to keep up their insane levels of federal spending.
She blasted anybody who supported the McCarthy – Biden deal by accusing lawmakers in favor of agreeing to boost the nation’s debts by $4 trillion in the next two years.
Mace was particularly outraged that the agreement would “normalize” the gigantic COVID-19 pandemic-era spending, adding the nonpartisan CBO (Congressional Budget Office) found the deal bill’s expenditures were “out of control.”

63% of Americans want Congress to cut spending as part of a debt ceiling deal. This bill doesn’t do that.
Unacceptable.
