Chicago is Being Overrun by a Massive Crime Wave

Chicago is a Democrat-run city with major problems. Every week, there are dozens of shootings and gangs infest huge areas of the city’s lower-income neighborhoods.

Although, it’s not only homicide, drugs and rape that are constantly on the rise in the Windy City. There’s also been a big increase in theft and brazen robberies.

In the past month, robbers have invaded at least seven places in rich areas of the city, stealing large amounts of merchandise and items.

The latest example comes out of the Chatham neighborhood, where a large group of individuals broke into a clothing store and stole expensive items before running away.

On Monday, two armored truck guards were also gunned down as thieves robbed cash in the western area of Chatham.

Local Politician Sounds the Alarm

Chicago alderman George Cardenas has been sounding the alarm on what’s happening. He’s saying the city is being hit by a “crime pandemic” and they need to respond.

The murder rate in Chicago is also through the roof. In 2020, the murder rate went up 56% higher than it was in 2019.

It’s now risen 3% more than last year so far in 2021, hitting a rate 59% higher than 2019. So far in 2021, there have been over 4,000 shootings in Chicago.

As for carjackings? There have been around 2,000 carjackings so far this year; the rate of carjackings has grown by over 30% so far in 2021.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to live in a city where murder is rising by more than 50% a year and still climbing. I don’t want to live in a city where there are more shootings than an active combat zone.

The head of police in Chicago is Superintendent David Brown; he took charge in the spring of last year with a vow to cut down the murder rate.

So far, he’s been unable to, but with radical left Mayor Lori Lightfoot in charge, it’s hard to put all the blame on him.

Lightfoot Responds

According to Lightfoot, who made headlines in the past for saying she’d only give interviews to journalists who weren’t white, the problems are “complex.”

She said Cardenas’ demands for something to change are ignorant and wrong. Even as thieves broke into more stores in the Magnificent Mile area, including Gamestop and another clothing store, Lightfoot can only make excuses.

According to her, everything comes down to racism and poverty. Apart from how condescending an attitude it is to treat everyone like victims, Lightfoot is also ignoring many of the victims of Chicago’s street violence are minorities.

She wants a narrative that basically says richer areas of the city should shut up and take their hits because of their privilege.

This is not the idea any leader should have. Lightfoot is the mayor of Chicago, not mayor of one particular neighborhood or demographic of Chicago and she needs to start acting like it.
