California Governor Gavin Newsom Has a Last-Ditch Idea to Stop His Recall

California Governor Gavin Newsom faces a recall vote in October of this year after more than 1.7 million state residents signed a form saying they want him gone.

Now he’s come up with a new last-ditch plan to save his own hide.

Massive spending and handouts to state residents, including a $100 billion economic spending bill that would give 67% of Californians money in the near future.

It’s the Democrat way: when in doubt open up the printing presses and start handing out freebies.

Newsom says the giveaway is deserved because taxes on the rich have left California with a $75.7 billion budget surplus.

Will this work to keep Newsom in office?

How Much Money Will California Residents Get and When?

If Newsom’s bill passes everyone California household making $75,000 or under per year will receive a check for $600 along with an extra $500 if they have kids. The timeline at this point is not clear, but it would certainly be in the next few months before the recall.

The total cost for California of sending out all these checks would add up to $8.1 billion. There would also be another $2 billion in help to pay for utilities and $5.2 billion to double direct assistance to renters who are having trouble paying.

“California’s recovery is well under way, but we can’t be satisfied with simply going back to the way things were,” Newsom said.

As for the remaining $15 billion? It’s not clear how it will be spent by the liberal state government, but I would put good money that it will not be spent in an intelligent, long-term or successful way.

More Money for California

California is also slated to receive an extra $27 billion from Biden’s COVID relief bill. With all the money coming its way, California is starting to finally round the corner from the darkest days of the pandemic, but it’s still lost many large businesses and even had people like Tesla CEO Elon Musk move away.

The state is currently coming back from COVID, but Newsom’s policies did a lot to strange the state’s economy over the past 18 months.

Being caught in public flaunting his own mask mandate at a dinner with friends and donors also didn’t do much to help Newsom’s hypocritical progressive image.

If California’s economy makes a solid comeback and this bill passes, people are going to start having more money in their pocket and may keep Newsom around.

This is clearly an attempt to cling on to power by Newsom, who may be a hypocrite but is not stupid. He rose up the ranks of California’s political scene by being a smooth operator who knew how to play the game and shake the right hands in the California Democrat party.

Now Newsom is banking on his state’s financial fortunes to give enough handouts that folks keep him around.

What do you think, will this work?
